This week, I worked on my texture painting and watercolor skills practice. I think paint doesn't like me, that's why I don't like it either. I want to change it but at the same time I don't. On the watercolor skills practice, most of them came out right. I painted too much on the solid wash and it came out weird. I re-did that one and also the gradated and rubbing alcohol ones. I did them on top of the first one, that's why they look different. The solid wash doesn't look right but I think I know how to do it if I try it again. The other two turned out well. Those were the problems I ran into this week. For the watercolor project, I decided to do a street with lamps as street lights. It's also going to be rainy. It just shows lamps out of place and they are now street lights. I thought it would be cool to do it, but I have no idea how it's going to turn out. I think my biggest strength this week was artists develop art-making skills because I learned how to do the watercolor techniques that I didn't even know existed.
This week, I worked on my painting. I think the best part of my painting is the sky but I'm not sure if I like it or not. I still don't like the green on the background. I think it's still kind of bright. One problem I've ran into is when I try to blend colors. I go from one color to another, so when I want to blend colors I can't because the paint is already dry. I'm going to try to stay with a certain color and try to finish using it before I go to a different one so I don't run into the same problem again. The only thing I've changed so far is that the sun is on the left side of the painting, not going around the umbrella thing as I'd planned it because I thought it would look better since there would be nothing covering it. From feedback, I changed the green color of the background because it was too bright. It looks better now, but I still don't like it. I think my biggest strength this week was artists are productive and accountable (again) because I went in an extra study hall so I can get done with the painting faster.
For the texture painting, I decided to paint the umbrella-looking thing outside my grandma's house in Mexico. I didn't want to draw a picture like I do most of the time, but I decided to do it hoping this time I can do something cool to it and that it turns out better than the other things I've done. My grandma's house is in the country part of the town where I'm from. I love going to her house because I feel great while I'm there. This week, I drew the picture on the canvas and started to paint it. I think the drawing turned out well. I didn't do an underpainting because I didn't want to wait for it to dry but I probably should've. I hope I don't leave any white spots when I'm done with it. So far, I've painted the sky and part of the umbrella thing. I like the texture of the sky but I think I'm going to make the purple lighter. Other than that I haven't ran into any other problems. I also haven't changed anything from my original or gotten feedback that made me change something. I think my biggest strength this week was artists are productive and accountable because I worked the whole time and made up the class and study hall I missed on Wednesday.
